Among the Dust of Thieves is a period western about the last few months of the southwestern legend Colonel Albert Fountain, and his mysterious murder. We jump back and forth between two stories; one: Colonel Fountain's last case pursuing a dangerous gang of cattle rustlers, which ends with his death. The second begins with the discovery of the crime scene, and the increasingly dangerous investigation by an undercover Pinkerton detective, as the murder suspects begin to realize they have drawn unwanted attention.
