Of Gods and Kings: The Skyros Horse

Of Gods and Kings: The Skyros Horse (2016)

The history of man IS the history of the horse. From the sword to the plowshare, through our most arduous and treacherous endeavors, humanity owes an incalculable debt to the noble horse. In Greece, birthplace of modern civilization, the remarkably unique and ancient Skyrian Horse is facing extinction. Mechanization has deprived them of their agricultural use and their natural habitat on the wild vouno of the island of Skyros is threatened by overgrazing and the looming hazard of plans for the largest wind farm in Europe. The debt to history remains, these horses-- which should be celebrated as a Greek National Treasure-- are an integral part of who we are, and who we become.
