Honor the Treaties

Honor the Treaties (2012)

Honor the Treaties is a short film examining photographer Aaron Huey's personal journey from photojournalist to advocate through his exploration of the social injustice and forgotten history of Native Americans on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. His 2010 TED talk calling for the return of the Black Hills to the Lakota Sioux in part led to a nationwide 2011 street art campaign in collaboration with legendary street artist Shepard Fairey. Building off his experience as a photographer on the reservation, the film examines Huey's personal growth and change in relationship to storytelling, drawing connections between art and advocacy and making a case for empowering individuals to tell their own stories.
